I don't get the outrage
I’m having a hard time understanding why people are up in arms over hipster kids getting food stamps and using them to buy better food. If you meet the standards, then you are poor. Period. What you choose to buy with your allotment should be your own business.
Not to mention, it’s a stereotyping the poor to put them in some kind of box, like, ‘Oh, you are poor, so make sure you buy some frozen dinners and soda with your food stamps.’ What a crock.
My food budget is $150 or so a month. I would love to have extra money for food, and put my food budget into savings or health insurance. And you can bet I would be shopping at Trader Joe’s just like always, because yeah, I’m poor, but I can keep my body healthy if I buy good food. Which is the purpose of food stamps to begin with.
